44DO/NJASDF conducted Japan-Philippines humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HA/DR) exercise, “Doshin-Bayanihan 2-22”, in the Republic of the Philippines. This was the second such exercise since last year, and included airdrop and on-load/off-load training with partici-pation of C-130H from both Japan and the Philippines to improve HA/DR capabilities and strengthen cooperation. JASDF will continue to further promote defense cooperation and exchanges with the Philippine Air Force and contribute to upholding and reinforcing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.From June 21 to 20, General Izutsu, Chief of Staff, JASDF visited the Philippines and Vietnam. He participated in the Air Force Symposium hosted by the Philippine Air Force and held talks with Lieutenant General Connor Anthony D. Canlas Sr, Commanding General, Philippine Air Force. He and Lt Gen Canlas visited the site of the “Doshin-Bayanihan 2-22” together. In Vietnam, he paid a courtesy call on General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, and exchanged views with Lieutenant General Vu Van Kha, Commander of Air Defence-Air Force, Vietnam People’s Army. During talks with Lt Gen Kha, General Izutsu expressed his view that both countries can work together to uphold and reinforce a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
