7www.mod.go.jp/en/jdf/Philippines: Vessel Maintenance and Aviation MedicineFrom 2 to 9 June, JMOD/JSDF invited Philippines Armed Forces personnel to Japan to launch a 3-year capacity building project on vessel maintenance. In addition, from 10 to 17 Jun, an invitational activity in the field of aviation medicine has been implemented for Philippine Air Force. Through these projects, the JMOD/JSDF will further develop and strengthen defense cooperation and exchanges with the Philippines and contribute to upholding and enhancing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.Cambodia: Road SurveyingIn late May, the JMOD dispatched six personnel from the JGSDF 4th Engineer Brigade and one from Indo-Pacific Regional Policy Division, JMOD to Cambodia for a capacity building project. The team provided PKO-related engineering training focused on road surveying. Since 2013, the JMOD/JGSDF has supported the development of civil engineering in Cambodia. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the first JGSDF unit deploying to Cambodia for PKO. The JMOD/JSDF will continue to support Cambodia, the Chair of ASEAN this year, and further develop the bilateral cooperation between Japan and Cambodia.Capacity Building ProjectsCapacity Building ProjectsVietnam: Underwater Unexploded OrdnanceFrom 16 to 20 May, the JMOD/JMSDF conducted a capacity building activity in the field of underwater unexploded ordnance clearance with the Vietnam People’s Navy in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Even today, there are still many underwater unexploded ordnances like mines in Vietnam. This defense cooperation project will contribute to the enhancement of Vietnam’s capacity to deal with underwater unexplod-ed ordnance clearance. The JMOD/JMSDF will further develop and strengthen “Japan-Vietnam Defense Cooperation at the New Level”.
