5www.mod.go.jp/en/jdf/On June 15, Defense Minister Kishi held the Defense Ministerial Meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence of Australia, Richard Marles. Defense Minister Kishi stated at a Joint Press Conference that Japan-Australia defense cooperation contributes to the peace and stability of the region and that the two ministers will work closely to uphold and reinforce FOIP. The Ministers also discussed the situation in Ukraine and reaffirmed that unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force is unacceptable in any region and it is critical for the international community to act in a united fashion and that Japan and Australia continue to cooperate closely.Defense Minister Kishi virtually attended Ukraine Defense Contact Group hosted by U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III on May 23 and made a speech on the support from JMOD /JSDF to Ukraine. We will continue to provide support for Ukraine to the maximum extent possible.On May 26, Defense Minister Kishi and U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin held a telephone conference in light of the ballistic missile launches by North Korea the day before. The Ministers strongly condemned that a series of ballistic missile launches by North Korea were a violation of relevant UN Security Council Resolu-tions and it threatens not only the peace and stabili-ty of the region but also the international commu-nity.
