7U.S. Air Force Global Hawk（RQ-4）and U.S. Navy Triton（MQ-4）, whose missions are ISR activities, was temporarily deployed to Japan around mid-to-late May. This deployment was intended to demonstrate unwavering U.S. commitment to the defense of Japan and beneficial for security of Japan by strengthening surveillance capabilities around Japan, given the intensifying activities by surrounding countries. U.S. Forces have temporarily deployed Global Hawk (RQ-4) based in Guam to Japan since 2014. Last year, Triton (MQ-4), the improved model of Global Hawk (RQ-4) specialized in maritime surveillance, was deployed to Japan for the first time. Royal Canadian Air Force sent its patrol aircraft CP-140 in the end of April to conduct surveillance activities against illicit maritime activities, including North Korean vessels engaged in ship-to-ship transfers which is prohibited by the UNSC resolution. This is the seventh dispatch since 2018. International community's concerted efforts to strengthen the response to North Korea's "evasion of sanctions" including the "ship-to-ship transfers," will further enhance the effectiveness of the UNSC resolutions. Japan welcomes Canada's efforts from the perspective of ensuring the effective-ness of UNSC resolutions through united efforts of the international community.JMOD/SDF participated in Locked Shields 2022, an international cyber defense exercise organized by NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excel-lence (CCDCOE) held from April 19 to 22. This is the second participation following the last year. Approxi-mately 30 countries participated to address simulated cyberattacks against a fictional nation.
