6+TM/NOn March 17, JMSDF held Japan-France bilateral exercise OGURI-VERNY for the second time since last September. JS Kirisame conducted tactical training with FS VENDÉMIAIRE from French Armed Forces in the Pacific which conducted monitoring and surveillance activities against illicit maritime activities in the East China Sea.French Navy sent its Frigate Vendémiaire in the middle of March to conduct surveillance activities against illicit maritime activities, including North Korean vessels engaged in ship-to-ship transfers, which is prohibited by the UNSC resolution. This was the fourth dispatch since 2019. International community’s concerted efforts to strengthen the response to North Korea’s “evasion of sanctions,” including the “ship-to-ship transfers,” will further enhance the effectiveness of the UNSC resolutions. Japan welcomes France’s efforts from the perspective of ensuring the effectiveness of UNSC resolutions through united efforts of the international community.On March 23, RADM Omachi and RADM Jean-Mathieu REY held a meeting in person.They exchanged views on a variety of topics such as bi/multilateral exercise and response to illegal ship-to-ship transfer, and agreed to strengthen cooperation to realize the FOIP.+%'Japan-France Defense Cooperation
