4+TM/NOn March 24, Defense Minister Kishi held a telephone conference with U.S. Secretary of Defense. Lloyd Austin. The Ministers concurred that a series of ballistic missile launches by North Korea were violation of relevant UNSCRs and agreed upon the seriousness of the ICBM-class launch on the same day in particular for both countries. The Ministers confirmed to strengthen the Alliance capabilities to deter and respond, and that advancing close trilateral cooperation among Japan, the United States, and the Republic of Korea was important. They also confirmed that Japan and the U.S. would closely cooperate in response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.On March 18, General James Dickinson, Commander of the United States Space Com-mand (USSPACECOM), visited the Fuchu Airbase and gave a courtesy call on State Minister Oniki and had a meeting with General Yamazaki and also with General Izutsu. During the meeting, State Minister Oniki and General Dickinson discussed topics such as space threats, the importance of securing the stable use of space, and bilateral defense cooperation including Space Situational Awareness (SSA).
