5On February 17, Defense Minister Kishi held a Japan-Australia Defense Ministerial teleconference with the Hon Peter Dutton MP and thanked for Australia’s extensive support to JSDF’s international disaster relief activities in Kingdom of Tonga. The Ministers also agreed to strengthen their joint cooperation with regional partners, including the Pacific Island countries, and underscored their continued efforts in upholding and reinforcing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.” The JGSDF and the Indian Army conducted third Dharma Guardian21 in Belgaum, State of Karna-taka from February 27 to March 10, and accom-plished high-end training such as urban terrain combat including indoor live firing for the first time. This training strengthened tactical skills of the JGSDF related to anti-terrorism and both countries’ security cooperation. This year marks the 70th Anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations between Japan and India.On February 21, Defense Minister Kishi signed the Japan-Poland Memorandum on Defense Cooperation and Exchanges and held a VTC with Minister of National Defense Błaszczak of Poland. They welcomed the signature and confirmed to deepen cooperation/exchanges as strategic partners. Both ministers also discussed regional security issues.
