4.@X/NOn February 14, LTG Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, visited Japan officially at the invitation of General Yoshida, Chief of Staff, JGSDF. On February 15, Defense Minister Kishi received a courtesy call by LTG Hun Manet Cambodia is the ASEAN Chair for 2022. 2022 is a year of significance for the bilateral relations as it marks the 30th anniversary of the first deployment of JGSDF personnel for UNTAC.Prior to the courtesy call, General Yoshida, Chief of Staff, JGSDF officially hold a meet-ing with LTG Hun Manet. During the meet-ing, they actively exchanged their opinions on the importance and future direction of Japan-Cambodia collaborative defense coop-eration and exchanges as well as regional situations, establishing their trusted relation-ship and strengthening the relations between the ground forces.LTG Hun Manet also visited Camp Narash-ino and deepened his understanding about the JGSDF via equipment display and train-ing observation. Moreover, he met with retired LTG Watanabe, who served as the first battalion commander of the engineer battalion dispatched to UNTAC.On February 16, LTG Hun Manet visited the JGSDF Fuji School and deepened his under-standing of the JGSDF by observing Type-10 tank firing training and equipment display.On March 15, JS Uraga and JS Hirado of the Indo-Pacific Middle East Deployment21(IMED21) unit called at Sihanoukville. The unit attended a welcome ceremony in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Tea Banh, and conducted a goodwill exercise with the Royal Cambodi-an Navy.
