This cooperation was a result of the Japan – Vietnam Defense Ministers’ Meeting held in November 2021, and is a model case for "Japan-Vietnam Defense Cooperation at the New Level." The JGSDF personnel provided advice and directly supported the packing of materials that will be used in UNISFA. On 29 December, representatives of the JGSDF personnel made a courtesy call on Lt Gen Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the People’s Army of Vietnam (VPA). He expressed his gratitude to Japan’s contributions to Vietnam and his high expectations for the future cooperation. On 12 January, the JGSDF personnel held a seminar with the VPA’s UNISFA contingent to share lessons learned during this cooperation activity and from the past deployment of the JGSDF in the past PKO missions. His Excellency, the Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Yamada Takio, also observed activities on the site and expressed his appreciation and encouraged the personnel. JMOD/JSDF, together with Vietnam, will continue to contribute to the peace and stability of the international community.On January 19, JMOD/JSDF and Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN) held an online seminar in the fields of underwater medicine. During the seminar, the JMSDF and VPN shared knowledge and experience about the topic which benefitted both sides. Under the "Japan-Vietnam Defense Cooperation at the New Level," Japan and Vietnam agreed to further accelerate various collaborative efforts.
