5From January 2 to 20, JMSDF P-1 patrol aircraft participated in a multilateral anti-submarine warfare exercise "Sea Dragon 2022" hosted by the U.S. Navy in the vicinity around Guam. JMSDF has participated this exercise three times in a row since 2020. Through this exercise, JMSDF maintained and reinforced tactical skills related to anti-submarine operation and strengthened cooperation with participating countries, while contributing to securing maritime traffic safety of Japan. From January 17 to 22, JMSDF JS Hyuga conducted a bilateral exercise with USS Carl Vinson and USS Abraham Lincoln CSGs, USS America, and USS Essex in offshore areas south of Okinawa to strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance capabilities to deter and respond. It marked the 8th exercise with US carrier in this fiscal year.
