5On November 15 and 17, JGSDF 1st Airborne Brigade conducted parachute drop training from C1 and C-130H airplane of JASDF and C-130J airplane of the U.S. Air Force. JMOD/JSDF continues to conduct such exercises to improve tactical skills necessary for airborne operations.On November 16, JMSDF submarine and the U.S. Navy conducted an anti-submarine exercise in the South China Sea for the first time. JMSDF submarine, JS Kaga and JS Murasame from Indo-Pacific Deployment 21 unit, and the U.S. Navy USS Milius demonstrated the Japan-U.S. unified commitment for peace and stability in the region.On December 3, Defense Minister Kishi held a telephone confer-ence with the U.S. Defense Secretary Austin. The two Ministers confirmed that they will further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance capabilities to deter and respond in order to address the increasingly challenging security environment. They also agreed to hold “2+2” at the earliest time possible.
