5On September 2, Defense Minister Kishi hosted the virtual Japan Pacific Islands Defense Dialogue (JPIDD), the first-ever multilateral defense ministerial dialogue hosted by JMOD. Ministers and representatives of Pacific Island coun-tries and partners in the region attended.The Indo-Pacific Deployment unit visited the Pacific Islands Region for the first time. Taking this opportunity, a Japan-Palau goodwill exercise took place on September 1. Also during Septem-ber from 13 to 16, JS Shiranui conducted a good-will exercise with the Vanuatu Maritime Police for the first time. JMOD /JSDF will keep promoting cooperation with Pacific Island countries includ-ing Palau and Vanuatu to contribute to peace and stability in the region. They exchanged views on a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, maritime security, COVID-19, and climate change & HA/DR.
