5JMSDF JS MAKINAMI joined Japan-U.S.-Australia-ROK multilateral exercise Pacific Vanguard (PACVAN) 2021 in the waters and airspace around Sydney,Australia from July 5 to 10, and confirmed enhanced collaboration among US Navy, Australian Navy and ROK Navy. The training intended to uphold and reinforce the "Free and Open Indo-Pacific." PACVAN is a maritime multilateral Japan-U.S.-Australia-ROK exercise which has been held since 2019. In PACVAN 2021, JMSDF conducted exercises including live-fire training and an anti-submarine exercise with U.S. Navy USS Rafael Peralta, Australian Navy HMAS Brisbane, ROK Navy ROKS Wang Geon and patrol aircraft P-8 of U.S. and Australia.www.mod.go.jp/en/jdf/Courtesy call by Commander, U.S. Army Japan, Brigadier General Joel B.
