3From August 17-19, Parliamentary Vice Minister Matsukawa visited Hawaii, the United States. In the 2021 Chiefs of Defense (CHOD) Conference on 18th, she delivered a keynote speech on “The Role of Women in Global Security” and introduced Japan’s efforts for promoting active participation of women. On 17th Ms. Matsukawa met with Admiral Aquilino, Com-mander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command; Admiral Sir Radakin, First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff, UK; General Campbell, Chief of the Defense Force, Australia and Lieutenant General Gloria, Vice Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines. In the meetings, they confirmed to deepen bilateral defense coop-eration and exchange in order to uphold and reinforce the "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" vision.General Yamazaki, Chief of Staff, Joint Staff, participated in the 2021 CHOD Conference taken place in Hawaii from 14th August to 22th August hosted by the US Indo-Pacific Command. In the conference, Chiefs of Defense in Indo-Pacific region had frank discussions on regional security issues. In particular, the importance of promoting and establishing fundamental values such as the rule of law, which is the basic concept of the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific,” and making the Indo-Pacific region as the global commons that brings peace, stability and prosperity to all nations without distinction was reaffirmed. The necessity of strengthening cooperation among countries was also shared. A relationship of mutual trust with the Chiefs of Defense was also built and developed by exchanging views on topics related to regional security through opportunities such as the plenary sessions and bilateral meetings. www.mod.go.jp/en/jdf/Participation in the 2021 Chiefs of Defense Conference
