Japan welcomes this announcement as this would further promote practical Japan-UK security and defence cooperation, which has deepened in recent years. Japan is confident that the CSG visit to Japan will: (1) be a symbol that the UK-Japan relationship that has long histo-ry and tradition has elevated to a “new level;” (2) demon-strate the UK commitment and Japan-UK collaboration to uphold and reinforce a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in the realm of security and defence; and (3) drive forward peace and stability of the region. Japan will closely cooperate with the UK towards the implementation of bilateral and multilat-eral exercises during this visit.General Yamazaki, Chief of Staff, Joint Staff, had a Trilater-al Chiefs of Defense Meeting with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff GEN Mark A. Milley and the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen Won In-Choul to exchange opinions about regional security and trilateral coorperation in Hawaii on April 30. Then U.S. Indo-Pacific Command commander Adm. Philip S. Davidson, new U.S. Indo-Pacific Command commander Adm. John C. Aquilino, and U.S. Forces Japan commander Lt. Gen. Kevin B. Schneider also attended while U.S. Forces Korea commander Gen. Robert B. Abrams participated via video teleconference. This is the first in-person meeting between the senior-most Japanese, U.S. and ROK military officers since the onset of the global pandemic. The three parties shared their concerns about North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs and discussed the importance of promoting a rules-based international order in the region. GEN Yamazaki emphasized the importance that Japan, U.S. and ROK work together for North Korea’s full compliance in accordance with all relevant United Nation Security Council Resolutions. Gen Milley reaffirmed the ironclad commitment of the U.S. to defend both the ROK +%' It was also announced that a Royal Netherlands Navy Frigate will join the CSG21. This Netherlands Frigate will visit Japan. Japan also welcomes this visit as it would further develop Japan-Netherlands relationship, which has a long history. Japan will closely coordinate with the Netherlands so the visit would contribute to the Free and Open Indo-Pa-cific.and Japan and that the U.S. remains prepared to provide extended deterrence guaranteed by the full spectrum of U.S. military capabilities. Gen Won highlighted the importance of trilateral cooperation for peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and Northeast Asia.
