5From March 9 and 11, JGSDF conducted parachute and cargo drop training from the aircraft of the U.S. Air Force in East Fuji Maneuver Area. The 1st Airborne Brigade enhanced tactical skills for airborne as well as improved the cooperation with the U.S. Force through this exercise.On March 10, Minister Kishi had a teleconference with H.E. Bowardi, Minis-ter of Defense of UAE. Mr. Kishi explained the extension of the JSDF infor-mation gathering activities and both agreed to keep close communication for ensuring peace, stability and safe navigation of vessels. Peace and stability in the Middle East is critical for the peace and prosperi-ty of the world including Japan. It is important to ensure the safety of naviga-tion of Japan-related vessels in the Middle East which is a major supplier of energy and from which Japan imports nearly 90% of oil.
