4.@X/NOn March 18, the 2nd Air Wing of the JASDF held a bilateral exercise with F-16 of the U.S. Air Force in the airspace of the eastward offshore of Misawa. This exercise aimed at enhancing the deterrence and response capability of the Japan-U.S. alliance. The MOD/JSDF put importance on acquiring the capabilities for both the JSDF and the U.S. Forces through the exercise to enhance the deterrence and response capabilities. The JSDF and U.S. Forces will continue to conduct bilateral exercises and demonstrate the posture of bilateral cooperation.+%'Bilateral Exercise with the U.S. Air Force Anti-Submarine Exercise with the U.S. Navy in the Eastern Sea On March 23, the JMSDF aircraft and submarine conducted anti-submarine exercise with the U.S. Navy in the eastern sea and airspace of Tanegashima Island, improving tactical skills and interoperability with the U.S. Navy, and enhancing the deterrence and response capability of the alliance. At the Japan-U.S. Defense Ministerial Meeting on March 16, the Ministers concurred on the importance of enhancing the readiness through high-end bilateral training. The JSDF and the U.S. Forces continue such training to bolster the capa-bilities of the Alliance to deter and respond.
