Issuance of the Order on the Termination of Airlift Services by JASDF Aircraft as Humanitarian Reconstruction Assistance Activities and Support Activities for Ensuring Security in Iraq

Today, the Ministry of Defense issued an order on the activities of the Air Self Defense Force units based on the Special Measures on Humanitarian and Reconstruction Assistance in Iraq. The outline of the order is as follows:
1. December 12, 2008 is set for the termination of the airlift services by JASDF aircraft as humanitarian reconstruction assistance activities and the support activities for ensuring security in Iraq.
2. The Commander of the Air Support Command will carry out airlift transportation by special transport aircraft for the withdrawal of the dispatched units, pursuant to the basic plan and implementation guidelines (the transportation is scheduled from Saturday, December 20 to Tuesday, December 23).
3. The Baghdad liaison unit will be disbanded on December 16, and the Iraq Reconstruction Support Airlift Wing and other units will be disbanded on December 26.
A total of 821 airlift operations were carried out, from the first flight on March 3, 2004 to the final airlift operation today.
