Mr. TARUMI Hideo, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the People's Republic of China, gave a lecture at Self Defense Fleet and attended other events.

On April 11, Self Defense Fleet invited Mr. TARUMI Hideo, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the People's Republic of China to give a lecture to JMSDF personnel.
He gave a lecture on the themes of "Choices in Life," "Destiny," and "Strategic Thinking," sharing his valuable experiences as a diplomat who had served Japan for its national interests for over 38 years, mainly on the front lines of diplomacy with China. At the end of his lecture, he quoted a line from the Analects of Confucius “見義不爲、無勇也(If you see what is right and fail to act on it, you lack courage).”
The audience, including the commanders and members of the Self Defense Fleet, were reminded of the importance of taking their assigned duties and responsibilities seriously. They also renewed their awareness of issues such as how to harmonize the diplomacy and the defense to promote peace and stability in Japan and the Indo-Pacific region.
After the lecture, Commander in Chief of Self Defense Fleet, VADM SAITO Akira talked with Mr. Tarumi to exchange opinions on the increasingly complex international situation and other issues, and VADM SAITO guided him to the Yokosuka base and “JS TAKANAMI” in order to help him understand the current situation of the Self Defense Fleet.
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
