Chief of the General Staff, Viet Nam People’s Army visits to the Maritime Operations Center.

On October 12, Chief of the General Staff, Viet Nam People’s Army, Vice Minister of National Defense Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, Senior Lieutenant General, Nguyen Tan Cuong visited the Maritime Operations Center and had a conversation with Commander in Chief, Self Defense Fleet, Vice Admiral SAITO Akira.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam as well as the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation. In addition, the” ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP)” shares fundamental principal with the “Free and Open Indo-pacific (FOIP)”, and Japan agrees with it.
This June, JS IZUMO and JS SAMIDARE from the First Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2023 (IPD23) made a port call at Cam Ranh, and conducted various exchange programs and goodwill exercise to deepen mutual understanding and friendship between Japanese and Vietnamese naval forces.
In the conversation, they recognized naval force plays an important roll not only for self-defense but also international disaster relief activities and anti-piracy operations. They also agreed to further promote Japan-Vietnam and multilateral defense cooperation and exchange thorough mutual exchange and capacity building in order to realize a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region and the international community in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies, not only for the defense of Japan, but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” and a security environment that does not tolerate any unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force.
