JS OUMI conducted a Japan-U.S. bilateral exercise (ILEX23-6: Interchangeable Logistics Exercise 2023-6).

From October 6 to 8, JS OUMI conducted a Japan-U.S. bilateral exercise (ILEX23-6: Interchangeable Logistics Exercise 2023-6) in Sasebo Port and in western waters of Kyusyu with U.S. Navy’s MV ACADIA TRADER.
We periodically conduct this type of exercise to maintain interchangeability between Japanese and U.S. Naval forces to conduct replenishment at sea.
The Commanding Officer of JS OUMI, Captain ENOKITANI Shinich said, “This exercise was conducted by a U.S. Navy oil tanker to supply fuel to our ship at sea and it was the first bilateral exercise of a JMSDF ship and a U.S. Navy oil tanker. In order to conduct replenishment at sea safely, we inspected safety of the equipment and the procedure at the quay of Sasebo Port in advance. Under the strong, long-lasting alliance, Japanese and U.S. naval logistic forces have been operating more effectively and efficiently in support of mutual front line units.”
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
