The 1st Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2023 (IPD23), JS IZUMO completed its mission and returned to Yokosuka Base.

On 12 September, the 1st Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2023 (IPD23), JS IZUMO completed its mission and returned to Yokosuka Base.
Commander in Chief of Self Defense Fleet, Vice Admiral SAITO Akira said, “The 1st Surface Unit fostered a strong relationship of trust with allied and like-minded nations through various activities such as visits to nations in the Indo-Pacific region, joint / goodwill exercises with each navy, and participation in multilateral exercise Talisman Sabre 23 hosted by the U.S. and Australia. The unit also contributed to creating desirable security environment by demonstrating our will not to tolerate any attempts to change the status quo by force and strong ties with like-minded navies. This is the result of each member being responsible as ‘a representative of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’ and doing their best in their positions.” He also expressed his gratitude to their families and friends for their understanding and support.
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and friendly navies.
