JS HAGURO conducted a Japan-U.S.-ROK trilateral Ballistic Missile Defense Exercise.

On August 29, 2023, JS HAGURO, conducted a Japan-U.S.-ROK trilateral Ballistic Missile Defense exercise with USS BENFOLD and ROKS YULGOK YI YI in Eastern China Sea.
The Commanding Officer of JS HAGURO, Captain TOMIMATSU Tomohiro said, “The exercise was conducted to practice connecting networks among each Aegis ships and sharing information on ballistic missiles. Through the exercise, we improved our tactical capabilities and joint response capabilities for ballistic missile defense.”
North Korea’s ballistic missile test launch seriously threatens peace and security of Japan, East Asia, and the international community, and is totally unacceptable.
This type of exercise is aimed at promoting the trilateral cooperation in order to respond to the regional security challenges amid an increasingly severe security environment surrounding Japan and demonstrating the trilateral strong commitment to protecting common security and prosperity as well as to enhancing rules-based international order.
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains maximum readiness not only for the defense of Japan, but also to contribute to peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, working with allied and like-minded navies to maintain maritime order based on the rule of law.
