The Indo-Pacific Deployment 2023 (IPD23), 1st Surface Unit made a port call at Male, Republic of Maldives.

During 15-18 July, the 1st Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2023 (IPD23), JS SAMIDARE made a port call at Male, Republic of Maldives.
During the port call, the Commander of the First Surface Unit of the IPD23, Commander of Escort Flotilla 1, Rear Admiral NISHIYAMA Takahiro visited the Japanese Ambassador to Maldives, TAKEUCHI Midori, the Chief of Maldives Defense Force, and the Commander of MNDF Coast Guard. The unit also conducted a ship tour for the Coast Guard, sports exchange, and beach cleanup to deepen mutual understanding and friendship with Maldives Forces.
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains maximum readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan, but also to realize a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
