The First Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2023 (IPD23) JS SAMIDARE conducted a bilateral exercise (JIMEX2023) with the Indian Navy.

During 5-10 July, the First Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2023 (IPD23), JS SAMIDARE conducted a bilateral exercise (JIMEX2023) with the Indian Navy, INS DELHI, INS KAMORTA, INS SHAKTI, Submarine, P-8I, DORNIER-228, etc. in Port of Visakhapatnam and Bay of Bengal, to enhance its tactical capabilities and interoperability with the Indian Navy.
JS SAMIDARE made a port visit at Port of Visakhapatnam during 5-7 July and held various exchanging events such as mutual ship visits, receptions on board, and sports event with the Indian Navy to promote friendship and mutual understanding.
The Commander of the First Surface Unit of the IPD23, Commander of Escort Flotilla 1, Rear Admiral NISHIYAMA Takahiro said, “In 2022, Japan and India celebrated the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Toward building a future for the 100th anniversary, active exchanges are underway not only in the area of security, but also in a wide range of political, economic, cultural, and sporting fields. It is a great honor for us to be a part of this project. The JMSDF has demonstrated its high level of cooperation with the Indian Navy through various bilateral-exercises, shared and strengthened common values and strategic interests together. We will work hard to make our partnership stronger and to achieve our common goal of realizing a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’ as the Indo-Japan goal.”
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
