JS YAMAGIRI and SH-60K patrol helicopter conducted a joint exercise with Japan Coast Guard vessel SAGAMI.

On 22 June, JS YAMAGIRI and SH-60K patrol helicopter conducted a joint exercise with Japan Coast Guard patrol vessel SAGAMI in eastern waters of Izu Oshima.
It was the first field training exercise based on the scenario in which the Japan Coast Guard is placed under the control of the Minister of Defense in the event of an armed attack and engages in evacuating local residents and providing information to ships. During the exercise, the JMSDF and the Japan Coast Guard trained and verified the procedure for communicating information between them.
The JMSDF will defend Japan by working closely with the Japan Coast Guard to properly respond to any situations from peacetime security, patrol, and surveillance activities to an armed attack situation in Japan’s territorial and surrounding waters.
