JS HAMAGIRI participated in the multilateral Proliferation Security Initiative exercise "Eastern Endeavor 23".

During 29 to 31 May, JS HAMAGIRI participated in the multilateral Proliferation Security Initiative exercise "Eastern Endeavor 23" at the Busan Naval Base in ROK and in the waters south-east of Jeju Island.
Commander KOGA Naoki, the commanding officer of the JS HAMAGIRI said, "In addition to the JS HAMAGIRI, naval and coast guard vessels and aircrafts from the U.S., Australia, and ROK participated in this exercise to conduct a practical maritime interdiction training. Through this exercise, we were able to acquire knowledge and skills related to PSI activities, improve our PSI capabilities, strengthen cooperation and deepen mutual understanding with the U.S., Australia, and ROK."
The JMSDF, together with other countries concerned, is fully prepared to prevent the transfer and transportation of weapons of mass destruction, missiles, and related materials.
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains readiness and, in addition to defending Japan, works with allied and like-minded navies to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law and contribute to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, with the aim of realizing a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific."
