The Indo-Pacific Deployment 2023 (IPD23), Third Surface Unit, JS KUMANO made a port call at Langkawi, Malaysia and participated in Langkawi International Maritime Aerospace exhibition 2023 (LIMA23).

During 22-28 May 2023, the Third Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2023 (IPD23), JS KUMANO made a port call at Langkawi, Malaysia and participated in Langkawi International Maritime Aerospace Exhibition 2023 (LIMA23) hosted by the Royal Malaysian Navy.
In addition, the unit participated in an international fleet review hosted by the Royal Malaysian Navy on 23 May and a multilateral maritime exercise on 28 May.
The Commanding Officer of JS KUMANO, Commander SAKURAI Atsushi said,“We displayed our latest destroyer in LIMA23 and could show the strength and technology of the JMSDF and how we are working on manpower saving. Through the fleet review and the multilateral exercise, we deepened friendship and mutual understanding with participating navies.”
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
