JS SHIRANUI conducted a Japan-U.S. bilateral exercise with NIMZ CSG.

During May 23 to 24, the First Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2023 (IPD23), JS SHIRANUI conducted a Japan-U.S. bilateral exercise with USS NIMITZ, USS BUNKER HILL and USS WAYNE E. MEYER in the Pacific Ocean and the East China Sea.
The Commanding Officer of JS SHIRANUI, Commander MINAMI Kazuhiro said, “Through the exercise, we improved our tactical capabilities and interoperability with the U.S. Navy. The JMSDF and the U.S. Navy work closely together in various sea areas to keep and enhance our response capabilities to respond to any contingency.”
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness, puts all our efforts to defend Japan in support of the Japan-U.S. Alliance as well as contributes to peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region for the realization of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
