The Indo-Pacific Deployment 2023 (IPD23), 3rd Surface Unit, JS KUMANO made a port call at Jakarta, the Republic of Indonesia and conducted a Japan- Indonesia exercise.

During 9-12 May 2023, the Third Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2023 (IPD23), JS KUMANO made a port call at Jakarta, the Republic of Indonesia.
During the port call, the unit invited the Japanese Ambassador to Republic of Indonesia, KANASUGI Kenji and the personnel of the Indonesian Navy to their ship to promote mutual understanding and cooperation. In addition, the unit conducted a bilateral exercise with an Indonesian Navy corvette KRI Kapitan Pattimura in the Java Sea.
It has been 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Indonesia. The two countries have promoted their efforts to Strategic Partnership underpinned by sea and democracy, as well as they have actively carried out defense cooperation and exchanges in various fields and at various levels.
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
