IMED23 made a port call at Muara, Brunei Darussalam.

During 30 April-2 May 2023, the Indo-Pacific and Middle East Deployment 2023 unit (IMED23: JS URAGA and JS AWAJI) made a port call at Muara, Brunei Darussalam.
It has been about 40 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Brunei and the two countries still have a good relationship. The JMSDF and the Royal Brunei Navy have also maintained active exchanges for many years. For example, the JMSDF has made a port call at Brunei many times on the occasions of its overseas training cruises and overseas deployments. Recently, the Brunei Naval vessel KDB DARULEHSAN was sent to Japan to participate in International Fleet Review 2022.
During the port call, Commander of Minesweeper Division1, CAPT NAKAI Eiichi and each commanding officer visited the Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, MAEDA Toru and the deputy of fleet command of the Royal Brunei Navy. In addition, the unit invited the personnel of the Royal Brunei Navy to their ships and held various exchange programs including a coastal cleanup to deepen mutual understanding and friendship.
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains readiness for the defense of Japan and contributes to peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
