Visit to Maritime Operations Center by Chief of Defense of the Netherlands Armed Forces.

On April 18, Chief of Defense of the Netherlands Armed Forces, General Onno Eichelsheim visited Commander in Chief, Self Defense Fleet, Vice Admiral SAITO Akira.
The Netherlands has a historical relationship with Japan for over 400 years, and is a strategic partner that shares fundamental values with Japan. In 2021, the Royal Netherlands Navy frigate HNLMS Evertsen joined the U.K. Carrier Strike Group (CSG21) to participate in a multilateral exercise with JSDF in the Indian Ocean and waters surrounding Japan. It also made a port call to Yokosuka Base during the deployment.
In the conversation, they shared serious concerns over attempts to unilaterally change the status quo by force, and concurred to eagerly promote Japan-Netherlands naval defense cooperation and exchanges in order to realize a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.
Self-Defense Fleet maintains responsiveness, engages in the defense of Japan, and contributes to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies to uphold and reinforce a free and open international order based on the rule of law.
