JS URAGA and JS AWAJI finished International Maritime Exercise/ CUTLASS EXPRESS 2023 (IMX/CE23).

From February 26 to March 19, 2023, JS URAGA and JS AWAJI participated in the U.S. hosted International Maritime Exercise/ CUTLASS EXPRESS 2023 (IMX/CE23) in the surrounding sea of Kingdom of Bahrain.
The commander of Minesweeper Division 1 CAPT NAKAI Eiichi, who served as the Japanese commander for this exercise, said “In the exercise, we used training mines and practiced finding and disposing them through multilateral cooperation. Through the participation, our unit has improved its tactical capabilities, strengthened cooperation and deepened mutual understanding with participating navies.”
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan, but also for the realization of "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" in cooperation with allied and friendly navies.
