US-2 conducted Japan- U.S. Bilateral Exercise (COPE ANGEL).

From February 28 to March 3, 2023, rescue aircraft US-2 of Fleet Air Wing 31 conducted Japan-U.S. bilateral search and rescue exercise (COPE ANGEL) with MC-130J and HH-60 from the U.S. Air Force in the South of Shikoku and Kyusyu area to improve its tactical capabilities and interoperability between the JMSDF and the U.S. Air Force about search and rescue in combat scenarios.
In this way, the JMSDF and the U.S. Forces work closely together to maintain and improve joint response capabilities to various contingencies. In addition, the JMSDF contributes to the deterrence and response capabilities of the Japan-U.S. Alliance.
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" in cooperation with allied navies.
