JS MAKINAMI conducted a bilateral exercise with USS CHARLESTON

On February 5, JS MAKINAMI conducted a bilateral exercise with USS CHARLESTON in the South China Sea.
The Commanding Officer of the Escort Division 7, CAPT FUJII Kenichi, who served as the Japanese commander for this exercise, said, “Through this exercise, we improved our tactical capabilities and interoperability between the JMSDF and the U.S. Navy. The JMSDF works closely together with the U.S. Navy to strengthen the Japan-US Alliance and increase response capabilities for various contingencies, maintain a free and open maritime rules-based order.”
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains responsiveness, safeguards the peace and defense of Japan, continues to integrate with allied and friendly navies, and contributes to the stability in the Indo-Pacific region in order to realize a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”
