History
Tokyo-maru(1888)
In 1888, Imperial Naval Academy was transferred from Tokyo to Etajima when
an education for naval candidates had started in this region. At that time,
the students lived on the support ship ”Tokyo-maru” which was moored
to a school pier.
Imperial Naval Academy(1893)
After the completion of the student's hall, the Red brick building, in
1893, the Imperial Naval Academy was expanded and was a source of history
and tradition until it was closed in December 1945. The Academy was considered
the center of training for Imperial naval officers.
After the Second World War, coalition forces including the United States,
the United Kingdom stationed and occupied the facilities for 11 years.
When the school facilities returned to Japan, the JMSDF took them over
in January 1956, and the Service School in Yokosuka was transferred to
here.
