A military attack against Japan, an island country, can be envisaged to be conducted using warships and other naval Force as well as aircraft. The Maritime Self-Defense Forces is the primary group to defend the surrounding sea areas. In conjunction with the Ground and Air Self-Defense Forces, we conduct coordinated surface, undersea and (local) air defense operations. The cumulative success of these operations prevents enemy incursion. We defend the surrounding sea areas by depleting the military forces arrayed against us.
