The SDF's Scheme for the Transportation of Relief Supplies from Local Governments and the Private Sector

The Ministry of Defense has set forth a scheme formulated for expeditions and the appropriate transportation/reception of relief supplies to the areas affected by 2011 Tohoku Pacific Ocean Earthquake. The details of the scheme are as follows:

1. Outline of the Scheme

1. Donators (prefectural governments, municipalities and private companies (except individuals)) wishing to provide relief supplies for suffered people. shall inform their prefectural government of the content of the supplies (i.e. items, quantity of supplies, etc.)
2. The prefectural government shall coordinate with a local Self-Defense Force Contact Point (See the List of Contact Points attached to this notice.) and shall inform the donators of the name and address of the camp/base where they should bring the supplies.
3. The donators shall bring the relief supplies to the designated camp/base at the designated date and time.
4. The Self-Defense Force will transport the donated relief supplies by means of A) or B), as provided below:
A) Supplies with a specific recipient (prefecture) shall be transported to the prefecture.
B) Supplies with no specified recipient shall be transported to an appropriate destination following coordination between the SDF (Disaster Relief Joint Task Force (Northeastern Army Headquarters)) and on-site disaster headquarters, based on local information.

2. Supplies Accepted for Transportation

Foodstuffs (except perishables, and items with a short shelf life), water, living necessities Donators should coordinate with their prefectural government as necessary, because some items, e.g. gas cylinders, cannot be transported.)

3. The Publicity Method for this Scheme

  • (1) The National Governors' Association shall explain the scheme in each prefecture.
  • (2) Prefectural governments shall inform municipal governments and residents of the scheme.
