Issuance of Instructions and an Order on the Preparations for Dispatching P-3C Patrol Aircraft Concerning Measures against Piracy off the Coast of Somalia and the Gulf of Aden

With regard to measures against piracy off the coast of Somalia and the Gulf of Aden, Japan has dispatched two MSDF destroyers and has been making preparations for dispatching P-3C patrol aircraft.
Based on the results of the onsite surveys, etc., Japan will continue its preparations for dispatching two P-3C aircraft, which will be operated from Djibouti Airport. In addition to ongoing preparations, we will make the necessary preparations for stationing P-3Cs in the Djibouti Airport and airlifting spare parts and other necessities to the site.
2. Minister’s Instructions
The Chiefs of Staff and the Director of the Defense Intelligence Headquarters shall take necessary measures, including the following measures.
i. Preparation for organizing a force, and related measures
ii. Procurement, replenishment, storage, and maintenance of equipments, etc., and related measures
iii. Training, vaccination, etc.
iv. Coordination with the Government of Djibouti, US Forces, and related organizations
v. Information gathering
The Commander of the Central Readiness Force, the Commander in Chief of the Self Defense Fleet, the Commander of the Air Support Command, etc., shall make the necessary preparations for prompt and effective implementation of the dispatch.
