Teleconference between Defense Minister Inada and Minister of National Defense Han Min-koo, Republic of Korea

The teleconference was held as follows.

 On March 7, 2017, in reaction to the ballistic missile launch by North Korea on March 6, 2017, Defense Minister Inada had a teleconference with Minister of National Defense Han Min-koo, Republic of Korea, and discussed situation of North Korea and cooperative measures.

 Defense Minister Inada stated to Minister Han that the launch of ballistic missile by North Korea constitutes a serious provocation which undermines the peace and security of the region and the international community, including Japan, and is a clear violation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. Minister Inada stressed that the launch is totally unacceptable and Japan and the ROK should further deepen their collaboration and cooperation.

 Minister Han strongly condemned North Korea's ballistic missile launch, saying it represented a grave threat to the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and the world. Minister Han emphasized the importance of united effort by the international community to respond to the threat.

 The two Ministers shared the view that it was important for the two countries to work collectively to address the nuclear and missile issues of North Korea, and that Japan and the ROK, as well as Japan, the United States, and the ROK would continue to collaborate and cooperate closely.
