"How to Respond to Nuclear and Missile Threat of North Korea: North Korea's Nuclear and Missile Development and Japan's Ballistic Missile Defense Posture"

On March 19th, the MOD Symposium was held in Tokyo. The aim of this symposium was to raise public awareness and understanding on the MOD's important policies by increasing and enhancing opportunities of direct dialogue with the people.

The theme of this year was "How to Respond to Nuclear and Missile Threat of North Korea: North Korea's Nuclear and Missile Development and Japan's Ballistic Missile Defense Posture". Minister Onodera delivered a welcoming speech and Director General of Bureau of Defense Policy Satoshi Maeda delivered a keynote speech. Midori Miyazaki (Professor/Dean, Faculty of Global Studies, Chiba University of Commerce) moderated the panel discussion, and the MOD invited the following panelists: Hiroyuki Akita (Commentator at Editorial Office of the Nikkei Newspaper), Hideaki Kaneda (Director, Okazaki Institute), Shunji Hiraiwa (Professor, Department of Policy Studies, Nanzan University), Narushige Michishita (Professor, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies), and Satoshi Morimoto (Chancellor, Takushoku University and Special Advisor to the MOD).
