Sea Ice Observation

On February 5th, the MSDF Fleet Air Wing 2 (Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture) conducted a sea ice observation activity. They observed the sea ice that was floating southward in the Sea of Okhotsk. Let us introduce some photos.

Sea Ice Observation

Upon requests from the Japan Meteorological Agency, the MSDF flies its aircraft in order to carry out sea ice observation activities which complement the satellite observation. Such activities have been conducted over 1,000 times since its start in 1960 by aircraft belonging to the MSDF Hachinohe Air Base.
