Multinational Joint Exercise Khaan Quest 2015

From June 20th to July 1st, the GSDF participated in “Khaan Quest 2015,” a multinational joint exercise hosted by the U.S. and Mongolia.

This exercise was hosted by the U.S. and Mongolia aiming at enhancing capabilities regarding the UN peacekeeping operations (PKO) and promoting trust relationship between participating countries. Approx. twelve hundred personnel took part in this exercise from about 20 countries in various regions including the Asia-Pacific, North America and European region. The Khaan Quest 2015 consisted of command post exercise, field training exercise, and other activities. The command post exercise included training on multilateral staff activities for international peace cooperation activities, while the participants conducted training on multinational basic activities for the UN PKOs in the field training exercise. In addition to those training, engineering civic action project conducting engineering work such as repairing schools and cooperative health engagement consisting of medical activity for local residents were implemented during the Khaan Quest.

The GSDF sent a platoon-sized unit (approx. 40) including instructors for the field training exercise, and it is the first time for them to send the unit for the Khaan Quest.
