The Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival is held every year on the first weekend of June in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture in the Hokuriku region. The festival celebrates the achievement and the entry of the first Lord Toshiie Maeda of the Kaga Domain into Kanazawa Castle on June 14th, 1583, which marked the beginning of the city. It also draws large numbers of tourists because of the chance to witness traditional Japanese culture firsthand through the re-enactment of entry parade into the castle, tea ceremonies, and lantern floating.

During the festival there is a parade featuring local music bands and police bands, and last year the GSDF 10th Band participated. The year before that the MSDF Band Maizuru took part. Both times, the bands received huge cheers and rounds of applause along the parade route.

This year’s Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival is expected to be more exciting and festive than ever because of the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen, only two hours from Tokyo to Kanazawa.
