On October 2, Defense Minister Morimoto met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Mr. Luvsanvandan Bold.

At the meeting, the two Ministers exchanged views on a situation in East Asia, and discussed defense cooperation and exchange between Japan and Mongolia. With regard to defense cooperation and exchange, the Ministry of Defense proposed promoting cooperation in a wide range of areas: in particular support for capability building in hygiene and PKO.

Finally, Mr. Bold expressed his desire for further support for defense cooperation and exchange between the two countries in the future.

On October 1, Prime Minister Noda reshuffled the Cabinet for the third time, and the new Cabinet was inaugurated. Defense Minister Morimoto stayed in office as the Minister of Defense.

On October 2, Akihisa Nagashima, member of the House of Representatives, was appointed as the Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister of Defense. Daisuke Miyajima, member of the House of Representatives, and Motohiro Oono, member of the House of Councilors, were also appointed as the Parliamentary Vice-Ministers of Defense.

A farewell ceremony was conducted on October 3 for the former Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister of Defense Shu Watanabe, as well as the former Parliamentary Vice- Ministers of Defense Mitsu Shimojo and Hideo Jinpu. An appointment ceremony was held the following day, on October 4, for the Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister of Defense Nagashima, as well as the Parliamentary Vice-Ministers of Defense Miyajima and Oono.
