On January 11, during a visit to Mongolia, then Minister of Defense Yasuo Ichikawa held discussions with Mongolian Minister of Defense Luvsanvandan Bold.

Former Minister Ichikawa opened their meeting, by expressing his congratulations on the Mongolian Ministry of Defense’s 100th anniversary. He continued by voicing that he hopes to further develop relations with Mongolia, a country that is also located in East Asia and shares the same basic values of democracy and defense policy as Japan, in order to ensure the peace and stability of the region and the international community. Minister Bold expressed his gratitude for former Minister Ichikawa’s visit, which marked the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and told that he expects the development of various types of cooperation between Japan and Mongolia in the field of defense, in order to ensure the peace and stability of the region and international community.

After the meeting, the ministers signed a memorandum on Japan–Mongolia defense cooperation and exchanges.
