Prime Minister Abe Boards the C-2 Military Transport Aircraft

Prime Minister Abe boarded the JASDF C-2 military transport aircraft for the first time on March 24th. The C-2 military transport is a successor of the C-1 and developed by the JASDF to enable more rapid and effective operation in tasks such as international peace cooperation activities. The C-2 entered service with the JASDF in 2016.

Compared to the C-1, the C-2 is equipped with a range of modernized features, and its cruising radius and weight on board are approximately four times and three times greater respectively, enabling it to carry more cargo for longer distances.

On March 31st and April 1st, Minister Onodera visited the JASDF Matsushima Air Base, and also the JGSDF Vice Camp Sorimachi, Camp Kasuminome, and Camp Koriyama.

Minister Onodera received a courtesy call from a delegation visiting Japan as part of the Japan-China Field Officer Exchange Program on April 17th.

The JMSDF conducted joint training with the British Royal Navy in the waters south of Kanto on April 27th and 28th, 2018, which was referred to in the Joint Statement of the third Japan-U.K. Foreign and Defence Ministerial Meeting on December 14th, 2017. This training was aimed to enhance the JMSDF’s tactical skills and strengthen cooperation with the British Royal Navy. DD Suzunami, AOE Tokiwa, P-3C, and a submarine of the JMSDF took part in the training with the British Royal Navy frigate HMS Sutherland, and conducted exercises such as antisubmarine warfare exercise.

To mark the shift to a new system with the reorganization of the Ground Component Command and other initiatives, and as an expression of the firm intent to carry out major reforms since its inception, the JGSDF has launched even more appealing uniforms that will help to secure outstanding new recruits and also reinvigorate the will and raise the moral of the current personnel.

Transfer of the JMSDF Trainer Aircraft TC-90

Transfer of the JMSDF Trainer Aircraft TC-90

The MOD proceeded with the transfer of the JMSDF trainer aircraft TC-90, following the agreement made at the Japan-Philippines Summit Meeting in September 2016.In March last year, two aircraft were handed over to the Philippines, and the remaining three aircraft were transferred on March 26th this year. Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defense Fukuda visited the Philippines on the same day to meet with Secretary of National Defense Lorenzana and participated in the Transfer Ceremony.
