On June 11, Minister of Defense Shigeru Ishiba paid a courtesy call on Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd during the latter’s visit to Japan and exchanged views on bilateral security cooperation and other issues.
The following day, Prime Minister Rudd met with Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda and concurred on promoting cooperation based on a released join statement. In the area of security cooperation, the statement called for promoting bilateral security cooperation and enhancing dialogue and cooperation on a trilateral basis with the United States.
