Dispatch of SDF personnel to Sudan based on the International Peace Cooperation Law

1. Upon a request from the United Nations (UN), Japan has decided to dispatch two Self-Defense Forces (SDF) personnel to the United Nations Mission In Sudan (UNMIS), based on the Law concerning Cooperation for United Nations Peace-Keeping Operations and Other Operations (International Peace Cooperation Law).

2. The Ministry of Defense will dispatch the required personnel (unarmed) to the International Peace Cooperation Team to fill the following two posts:

(1) A Logistics Officer to undertake coordination within UNMIS relating to the general logistical demands of the military force in the Logistics Office of the Military Headquarters

(2) An Information Officer to manage the database at the Joint Information Analysis Centre, Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations

3. The Cabinet has approved on Friday, October 3, the Program for Implementation of International Peace Cooperation Activities in Sudan and the related government ordinances, based on the International Peace Cooperation Law.

4. The dispatch is scheduled in mid- or late-October.
