Issuance of the Order on the Termination of Response Measures of the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) based on the Law Concerning the Special Measures on Humanitarian and Reconstruction Assistance in Iraq

Today, the Government of Japan, based on its judgment that the goal of airlift support in Iraq by the Air Self-Defense Force (ASDF) has been achieved, decided to terminate the ASDFfs mission by the end of the year. In response to this, the Ministry of Defense issued the order for termination of the ASDFfs airlift support activities and for their withdrawal. The outline of the order is as follows.

1. The Commander of Air Support Command shall take measures to terminate the airlift support activities which are being conducted as part of humanitarian reconstruction assistance activities and the support activities for ensuring security in Iraq. The Commander shall terminate the activities on the date to be designated separately, and order the return of the dispatched units to Japan.

2. A Service Squadron shall be formed to implement the missions for the withdrawal of the dispatched units. The Commander of Air Support Command shall implement the missions for the withdrawal of the dispatched units by this service squadron.
